- If you see an error at the beginning of
dmesg
aboutmdadm: error opening /dev/md<something>: No such file or directory
, you probably have a zombie array. - Mdadm devices are read at boot from
/etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf
and then mounted to the filesystem at/etc/fstab
. - If you update
/etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf
, also inform the initramfs of the updates withupdate-initramfs -u
.
