- If you see an error at the beginning of
dmesgaboutmdadm: error opening /dev/md<something>: No such file or directory, you probably have a zombie array. - Mdadm devices are read at boot from
/etc/mdadm/mdadm.confand then mounted to the filesystem at/etc/fstab. - If you update
/etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf, also inform the initramfs of the updates withupdate-initramfs -u.
